Second Grade Research Project Information

All second graders will be doing a report on a state.  Although we will be discussing the states together in class, the report is to be completed at home by the child.  Parents are welcome to coach and guide but it is imperative that the report is created, handwritten, drawn, or typed by the child and not the parent.

Format: There are various types of report formats to choose from.  Your child may choose to do a handwritten report, typed report, create a book, create a travel brochure, or the information may be shown on a poster board.  All projects will be showcased during the Elms Road Elementary Spring Festival of Learning. J

·       Draw or download a map of your state

·       Show the State Capital on the map of your state

·       Draw or download pictures of the State Flower, State Tree, and the  State Bird

·       Draw a picture of the State Flag

·       Describe the climate

·       Population

·       What is the state is known for? (Examples include specific crops, manufacturing or industries.)

·       Describe in a paragraph why someone should visit that particular state

·       3 or more interesting facts about the state

Optional Content:

Due Date: Friday, April 15th

(This is the Friday of the week that we return from Spring Break)

Where do children get the information needed? Please take your child to the local library to check out books.  You may use the internet as well.  A total of at least 2 sources are required.

Make sure to:

·        Let your child’s teacher know if you need help obtaining resources or information on the state on or before Parent Teacher Conferences.

·        Plan ahead on your calendar so that the project is turned in on time.  No late projects will be accepted.

·        Read the attached rubric.  A rubric shows what is expected in order to get the best possible grade.

·        Be creative and have fun with this project!  We are looking forward to seeing all of the wonderful work!
